6月7日より3ヶ月間続く公式プログラムとしてお送りすることになるので、これまでのスタスタを改善しつつ前回のようなRTFKT（アーティファクト）や落合陽一さんなどの特別ゲストを招いたりしてお送りしていきます。

Precisely. Getting selected for the Creator First Accelerator isn’t just the result of Alissa’s and my effort. We had motivation to keep producing content because of all the support on Twitter, consistent attendance to our shows, and all the great suggestions for content. Plus, everyone showed up to the Pilot episode with well-designed icons. So, congrats to all of us for this effort.

日本のClubhouseって、アメリカ在住も日本在住も仲良いのでなんでもできそうな気がします！なので多種多様な話もできるし、その辺のつながりを深掘りしてもっとコネクションを強くすればいいと思う。日本人×日本人だけでなく、このスタスタのような場所がもっと生まれてくるといいかもと思います。言語の壁とかあるけど、この辺りはアリッサとマイケルがぶっ壊してくれると思います。
The Japan Clubhouse community, be it Japanese living in Japan or Japanese living in the US, are pretty cohesive. So, I think people would appreciate an array of topics. Building connections across borders would be great. While there are language barriers, I think Alissa and Michael are great at breaking those down.

自分のところでお茶会があったのだけど、アイコンだけでも応援をということだったのでアイコンだけ参加させました！とても気になっていたので後で友人に聞いたら、とても有意義な時間だったとのことだったので、やっぱりライブで聴きたかったな！と思いました。改めておめでとうございます！
I had a tea-related event during the pilot show, so I was just there in icon spirit. But I was really curious how the performance went. And so, after my obligation, I asked my friend how it went. My friend said it was a high-quality show, which made me regret not being able to hear it live even more. Congrats, again!

僕は茶道家で、もちろん和菓子は欠かせないのですが、日本文化をビジネスにするんだというアリッサさんの意見はとても印象的でした。何かひとつでも突破口があったら日本というものを再発見してもらえる機会になるのではないか？と思う。

I’m a Japanese tea master, which of course doesn’t compare to a confectioner, but I really appreciate listening to Alissa’s opinion on running a business that is infused with Japanese culture. I think this is an opportunity to understand Japan, and its culture, from a different vantage point.
I think what Alissa is doing now is pushing traditional culture into a new age. Culture is constantly being built upon, and that is what Alissa is doing with her own take on wagashi (Japanese confections). Keep on doing what you are doing. You help inspire me to push forward too.

すごい嬉しいことに今回のことでRTFKTととても仲良くなって、確定ではないけれど「コラボしたい！」というオファーが彼らからあって。アメリカでイケてる集団とコラボできるということは想像していなかったので、やり方や見せ方で世界の人に感動とワクワクを与えることができるんだなと思える2週間でした。
I’m really happy that RTFKT, the guest from our pilot episode, wants to collaborate with me. They said so after the show. I never thought that such a popular company would want to collaborate with me, but I think by pushing the boundaries of how to run and present a Japanese confections business, I’ve been able to get people very excited about the treats I make.

At any rate, these cool cats, and yes I am referring to us, got the special mark because we were chosen by Clubhouse. And, I was chosen as the sole awardee from Japan. It means a lot to be chosen. For the next three months, Michael and I will be official creators through Clubhouse.

Last night I received an email from Clubhouse. At the time, I thought that it was notifying me that I didn’t pass. Instead, it said that we had passed and that they would like us to join a reveal room that next day at 10AM. How sudden, I thought.

I left my notifications on, so I just got the notification and joined. I won’t be sleeping tonight! And speaking of no sleep, your pilot episode was 2AM local time for me. I thought I would just listen in at the beginning, but three minutes into the show, I was fully awake. It was just so exciting to listen to. In addition to you and Michael, it was great to see Makoto, Asako and others bring their best on the stage. That level of realness was exciting to watch! Shows are better live.

Yes, it must be Tamago Gyaru’s doing. We used to use a different hashtag, but now that the program is called “The Global Lowdown,” we switched the hashtag to #tgl. In order to remember that, we thought of Tamago Gyaru Rice, or something like that, would make the hashtag sticky. But we never thought it would lead to this curse. Something more fashionable, like Tokyo, would have been more appropriate.

私も16歳からカルフォニアに行っていて、綺麗事とか大袈裟ではなく、絶対的にマイノリティとしての大変さがあるということを多感な時に感じていて。アジア人として向こうで活躍するというのは大変なことで、例えばドクターを見つけるんだったら有色人種を見つけろと言われて、それは白人がドクターになるのと有色人種がなるのとでは大変さが違うから、有色人種のドクターの方が優秀だと言われるくらい。そのくらいマイノリティには大変さがあることをわかっているので、10才以上も年が離れているアリッサが頑張っている姿を見るとなんだか本当に嬉しくて、自分ができなかったことの希望を託すことができています。
When I was 16 I went to California. And I truly felt in multiple instances the difficulty of being a minority in another country. When I went to the US, I was recommended that if I go to the doctor’s office I should find a non-white doctor, because it is more difficult to become a doctor as a minority. Because they have to go through more hoops, it results in higher quality. That is what I was told. Even though Alissa and I are more than ten years apart, it really makes me happy to see her giving her best in the US and doing things that I hoped to do.

私はすごくラッキーだと思っていて、先人たちが苦労して築きあげてきてくれたことがあって、やっとStopAsianHateのような運動や、コメディ以外でもアジア人が活躍していいんだ！っていうムーブメントができてきていて。これまでアジア人が活躍する方法はコメディ色しかなかったけれど、正攻法？正当方でも活躍できるようになってきているのは先人たちが戦ってきてくれたおかげだと思う。悔しい思いを後世に伝えてきてくれたからだと思っています。今回のファイナリストは53組いて、その中で26プログラム40名が受かっているもののアジア人は4名でした。さらにアジア人女性は3名だったのでまだまだ少ないし、まだまだ戦っていかないといけないなと思う一方、これまで頑張ってくれた、マイノリティとして戦ってくれた人のバトンを次は若い世代や子供たちに渡して、チャンスをたくさん与えられるように頑張っていきます！

I feel lucky. Because of the difficulties of what other individuals had to go through before me, the Stop Asian Hate movement arose, and even in Hollywood Asian American actors are receiving roles that aren’t just the clown. Having more opportunity is a result of previous Asian American’s efforts as well as them passing down stories of difficulties they faced. Even in the Creator First program, there are only 4 Asian finalists, three of whom are women. So, still I think it is important to fight for more positions and to pave the wave for younger people to have more varied job opportunities.

I thought, “Why are all these people advertising for me?!” I wanted to be one of the early ones to tell you congratulations. I was positive you’d be selected. Using this accelerator and beams, you created a great opportunity for people to come together. I thought it was a great illustration of the kindness in people’s hearts in Japan. 彼は自分の立場をいつも考えていて、スタスタでの僕のロールはこれで合っているのか？とか、最初の頃は入念に打ち合わせをしていて。もう少し話した方がいいかな？減らした方がいいかな？とか、主役とサブの役割分担や言い回しはどうかとか、日本語の使い方や言い回しがバカにしたように聞こえてしまうかな？など、初期の頃はスタスタ終わった後に10分から20分、いつも話し合いをしていたんだよね。
彼は日本の文化や言葉に対するリスペクトがあって、日本人の求めているものは何か、ファンの人が求めていることは何かということへの視線が本当に素晴らしいんだよね！
こういう話をしたかったんだけどずっとできなかったから、Yurikoありがとう！

Because he is not here at the moment, I’ll share some details. He doesn’t like to talk about this stuff. Michael is always thinking about his role during the show. During the beginning of Suta Suta, he wanted my opinion about his performance during the show, including how his jokes, character, etc, were received and if it was providing value to the audience. For the first month of the show or so, he would always call me after Suta Suta and confirm with me for 10 to 20 minutes about how things went.
He has a deep appreciation for Japanese language and culture, and he always wants to know how he can create a great show for the audience. I really appreciate that, and I’ve wanted to bring this up for a while. Thanks Yuriko.

Recently, I’ve been thinking how to give first. On the listener’s side, if there is no good content, they will think the app isn’t interesting. However, by broadcasting news through Clubhouse, I’ve built connections and learned a lot. I’d encourage others to always share information with others. It will benefit you as well. And, you can make friends on other platforms this way as well. For example, the other day I had a call with the people from RTFKT on Zoom. They were super friendly to me even though we had only spoken through Clubhouse.

I really have to thank everyone for listening over the past couple of months. It is thanks to you that I was selected. There were so many people in other rooms who supported me during this process, and I think being selected as a finalist is a reflection of everyone’s effort. We still need to come up with content for the next three months, but I would love to share more about Japanese culture to a global audience through The Global Lowdown.
